Let’s get one thing straight Ona Zimmerman didn’t go to no carpentry school, she never studied wood finishing or apprenticed under an established frame designer. Nah mon, truth be told I don’t think she even attended high school.
Ona is as true a street-artist as you’ll ever spill a drink on.
Her arrival to the world of Frame Design came via a perilous path. One of adventure, teenage mischief and sharp curves. The constant throughout her life though has always been creating art. For such a rebel, ironically enough, her greatest influence since being a child has been her father!
“when my dad used to come home from work, he never popped open a beer and watched the game on the TV. No, my dad would come home and go straight to the garage and work on art”
It’s fair to say those are the same creative forces that run through Ona’s veins today.
Shadow Boxes, Collages, Painting, Reassemblage of Plastic Toys, Furniture, Jewelry – you name it – she’s taken a stab at it. Exactly *how* she ended up making frames is a tale best told by Martin Scorsesse. We’ll keep you posted when that documentary wraps-up.
For now, though, you can rest assured that each and every frame, we build, is hand crafted, painted & shipped by Ona – the one and Ona.
